Tamborine Mountain – Great for Weddings August 19, 2010

Tamborine mountain

Wedding on the mountain

We recently relocated to Mount Tamborine – an absolutely beautiful spot. I have to say it was a great move. Although moving in the middle of winter to a house with no wood fire was a little of a challenge we soon got into the swing of things.

I went for a stroll the other day with my daughter Poppy, and took along my trusty camera for a few snaps on the way. After climbing the worlds steepest hill we arrived at the south end of Gallery walk. If you have never ventured out to Tamborine mountain, I would recommend a visit. Not only is it a beautiful spot this time of year, but we are coming into spring and the place is just full of flowers.

I have filmed a few weddings up on the mountain and they have always been really nice. If you are looking for a country feel or an english cottage kind of wedding then you should really check it out.

Gallery walk has a lovely village feel, filled with curio shops, cafes and fudge shops”yum”.  At one end there is a wedding gallery which is run by volunteers and is filled with everything you need to know about having a wedding on the mountain. Seriously this is probably the first place to stop and ask. The volunteers are all local and do not take commissions, so you get good solid honest advice.

Bonus is one of the fudge shops is a couple of doors down, so it really is a win win.

Me and Poppy had a great time.

Budget, Budget, Budget! August 19, 2010

Filed under: Frequently Asked — highlightfilms @ 12:52 am

I often have brides and grooms friends say to me “ oh I wish you had done my wedding the video guy we used was a bit average”
My next question is always “ what did it cost you and were you happy with the final product”
Almost on all occasions they reply that the price was great and the video was not what they wanted.
The old saying that you get what you pay for is so true in the wedding industry.
I have a friend who owns a garage and I take my vehicles to him for three reasons one the service is first class, my car comes back clean and with all the screws and bolts in the right place. Two communication he calls all his customers with updates on the vehicle  before he carries out any work, and it is agreed before he commences the repairs. Three Trust, I trust that his work is of a high standard and honest and fair and I wil not be ripped off.
Now the price never comes into it because although he is certainly not the cheapest, I know what I am getting(three points) before I have even taken my car out of the garage.

So the questions you need to ask are

Price                             you do get what you pay for “honest”
Communication           do you know what is included
Trust                            Have you seen his work examples
Service                         first class or will that be “just okay”!

Remember quality remains when the price is long forgotten, don’t get bitten by a cheap price!

Versace Expo June 8, 2010

We recently attended the Versace Expo with Ideal Bride on the Gold Coast.

The day was a very busy one, with lots and lots of Brides coming along to check out the venue and exhibitors.

We had heaps of fun and talked to lots of excited brides.

One thing I have noticed this time around is that the couples are much more interested in the storytelling of the films that we produce, which is a really interesting trend. To us it is the story, its what the wedding film is all about – the telling of the bride and grooms journey on that magical day.

We were asked to snap off a couple of shots for Surfers paradise flowers, who make stunning arrangements.

It was also a chance for me to try out my new canon lens! yes boring I know but it is  a stunning lens.!

Karen&Jon May 20, 2010

This was a beautiful traditional wedding .

Karen and Jon wanted something more formal and traditional to their wedding film,. We listened, asked the questions and got to  understand them as a couple. The result was a really warm and engaging story of their day.

The Church that Karen and Jon were married at was amazing. The site dates back to the early 1800′s and was beautiful to film. The service was Anglican, Jon being from England flew out the family.

We wish them all the best for their future.

Queensland Brides Expo April 15, 2010

We recently spent three days showing our wares at the Queensland Brides expo, it was a great success, with lots of couples all excited about wedding films.

We have noticed a much stronger interest in good quality wedding films, and it seems bride and grooms are getting much more switched on as to what is on offer out there in the world of “wedding video”

Although this was our first time out at this expo we were pleasantly surprised at the good turnout and the quality of the show.

We had our friends at Vintagewares.com.au dress our stand and had a lot of great comments about it. Kitty and April did a great job.

Stay tuned for some important new announcements. We are creating some brand new packages and a couple of other things that are in the pipeline.

This film was a competition that STILL MOTION ran on the Evolution experience which I attended in Sydney last week.
We were given around 35 minutes to shoot a small story (45 seconds) about ourselves, and an overnight edit, so armed with a camera I set about grabbing what I could. Unfortunately there was a mix up with the footage (Patrick!?) and so I could not edit mine until the next day, So this is kind of my homage to a same day edit.
I have to say the Evo experience was really really really great!
Nice one guys…
oh I almost forgot, The prize was an Cinevate Uno shoulder rig support for a camera, which I won Yeahhh!!!

Still Motion Evolution experience Sydney February 24, 2010

If you have not heard of Still Motion let me please say that the team based in Canada are in my opinion the “best wedding film makers in the world”.

I flew down to Sydney last week to attend the week long Evolution experience, which was the best fun I have had in a long time. Not only did I get to mix with some great film makers from around Australia and overseas, but the experience had a huge impact on me personally. Yes it was technical, and yes there was lots of great information, however the thought process and emotional connections that Still motion make with each of their couples is inspiring and helped me focus on the important elements of any couple, “their story”. After digesting the course notes and information, I can honestly say it has helped steer me on a personal level to connect even more with couples who come to highlight films. I am always striving to present the best work I can, to push myself in more ways, and to ask more questions on how we should approach each wedding. Still motion came and shared. for that  I am really thankful.

Below is a link to the experience we had.

very funny…

Dean and Candice, an amazing couple very much in love. The day began at Ambience in Burliegh on the Gold Coast and the ceremony was held at Oskars, a fantastic restaurant venue that overlooks the beach and Surfers paradise. The ceremony was fantastic and we even got a rainbow,  although we did have rain during the photo shoot, it did not take anything away from the day, and both Dean and Candice took it all in their stride. You may have noticed the wooden box at the ceremony, this was sealed with a bottle of whisky and cards from the couple and them hammered shut to be opened after 10 years! A great idea that I have not seen before.

Photographs were taken by Alberto Sanchez,  who was just  great to work with and put the couple at ease.

I also should mention the celebrant “marrymemarilyn.com.au” who was great fun and made everyone at ease.

The Film has turned out beautiful and I have to say it was an absolute pleasure to film a great couple.

Congrats!

Ulick&Brooke_a scooter story January 25, 2010

Highlight films  ran a competion in September  with Polka dot bride to give away a love story shoot worth 1200 dollars.  We are pleased to announce the winners – congratulations to Ulick and Brooke who came up with an interesting concept and a great reason why we should film their “love story”.    Polkadot bride link  http://www.polkadotbride.com/wp/?s=ulick+and+brooke

We filmed this on the Sunshine Coast very close to Maleny, a place called Montville. It was a fantastic setting and a is actually where Ulick and Brooke will marry, under the huge tree with the swing.  We had great fun on this shoot and the couple  who are very much in love were just great, we even got to take home  a tub of Brooke’s home made cranberry and apple pickle! what a treat.
